“I grow plants for many reasons; to please my eye or to please my soul, to challenge the elements or to challenge my patience. For novelty or for nostalgia, but mostly for the joy of seeing them grow.” – David Hobson
Although I’m not much of a green thumb, I adore flowers, plants, nature and watching things grow. There is certainly a grace about gardening that I can’t explain. Since I was a little girl, I watched my Mother & my Grandmother Pearl in their gardens & flower beds. They were so passionate, with their hands covered in dirt, eyes like the sun & hearts full of patience. They both looked as if they were one with nature. I thought it was one of the most beautiful things.
Today I am sharing a succulent centerpiece made from a galvanized chicken feeder that I found on one of my antiquing adventures. If you aren’t familiar with succulents, they are one of the coolest plants on earth! They are beautiful, interesting and low maintenance, needing very little water. I can’t think of a reason not to love them. Below I listed steps to making this awesome centerpiece. It would be amazing on a farmhouse table or used as wedding decor but let’s be real- it would be amazing anywhere;)
SUPPLIES:
*1 galvanized chicken feeder
*A variety of succulents
*Potting soil
*Rocks or sheet moss
*Electric drill (for drilling holes in the bottom of feeder for water drainage)
Step one:
Once you have your supplies, drill a couple of small holes in the bottom of your feeder so that water can drain.
Step two:
Fill the chicken feeder about 3/4 full of potting soil.
Step three:
Place succulents in the feeder, making sure there is enough soil around each plant. Top the soil with sheet moss.
CARE INSTRUCTIONS:
After you plant the succulents, water them until the soil is damp. Allow the soil to dry out before watering again. Set succulents in the sun for best results.
If you aren’t the “do it yourself” type, no worries. I am selling these! But note, quantity is very limited! Email me for more info:) Happy planting!
